Job Opportunities

FoodCorps Service Member

FoodCorps, an arm of the national service program Americorps, is an excellent opportunity for community members who have experience in or are interested in learning about gardening, cooking, teaching, and food systems. La Semilla’s FoodCorps Service Members work with our Edible Education Program and are placed with a local middle or elementary school where they build relationships, support teachers in implementing school garden and food education, and support an afterschool club that combines gardening, cooking, and food justice curriculum. Additionally, FoodCorps Service Members support all aspects of Edible Education, including teacher and community workshops, school garden beautification days, and the GROW Afterschool program.

Benefits of service in New Mexico include: $33,000 Living Stipend (Dispersed Bi-weekly); $7,395 AmeriCorps Segal Education Award after serving 1700 hours; Medical + Dental + Vision Insurance + Employee Assistance Program; and Student Loan Forbearance. FoodCorps New Mexico also provides weekly opportunities for community and equity-centered training and continued learning throughout their service year. To learn more about FoodCorps and other benefits, visit their website

We have filled our two FoodCorps positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Check back in January 2025 for more information on serving as a FoodCorps Member with La Semilla in the 2025-2026 school year!

Call for Creatives

La Semilla Food Center is looking to expand our working list of local writers (essayists, poets, etc.) and visual artists (photographers, videographers, illustrators, etc.) interested in telling the stories of how people in our region are engaging with land and food traditions. Please note that this is NOT a call for a specific contract position. Rather, we are building a list of locally based creatives (within the Paso del Norte Region, encompassing Anthony, NM, El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and immediate surrounding areas) for future paid opportunities.

If you’re interested in being added to our list, please send an email to storytelling@lasemillafoodcenter.org with your:

  • Email Address
  • Phone Number
  • Work samples/links (e.g., website, social media handle(s), etc.)
  • If you are bilingual (English/Spanish) and in which language(s) you prefer to create your works.
  • Portfolio is optional.
